Take part in an unforgettable white water rafting activity at Jeram Besu and ride in a 4WD to the scenic site of Berembun waterfall!
Located near Benta in the state of Pahang, Jeram Besu has rapids from class 1 to 3, making it suitable and fun for beginners and experts alike. It is considered one of the best spots in Malaysia for white water rafting and a testament to this is the fact that rafters, kayakers and canoeists will and have come from all over the country to experience a run down Sungai Lipis’ Jeram Besu. Singaporean white water rafting enthusiasts are frequent visitors to these rapids as well. After heavy rains, the rapids are especially fun to tackle as the body of water will swell, creating rougher currents to navigate, which means more fun for all!
During the mandatory water confidence course, you will be equipped with your rafting gear and taught how to float on the river, sit and paddle, and how to handle a capsize in order to prepare you for what to do in the event of a real capsize out on the rapids. You will also be doing a “man overboard” exercise which requires you to fall off a rocky ledge into a part of the river called the “Mother Rapids”, a bubbling, roiling section of water, but do not let fear make you back away, as once you have conquered this, you will feel invincible!
Crashing and splashing through the rapids of Jeram Besu is not the only way you can have a good time on the river; you can also enjoy a moment of peace on calmer parts of the river. Cruise down the river and sit back and enjoy the display of butterflies fluttering around, occasionally settling down on a rock before taking flight again. Spare a glimpse at overhanging branches as you pass under them and you may see some white-throated kingfishers perched upon them, or you may even spy Oriental pied hornbills gliding overhead through the branches.
On this adventure, you will also experience 45 minutes of rumbling down beaten paths in an energetic 4WD as it takes you on an off-road ride uphill and downhill! You will be taken through the Benom range to the Lata Berembun waterfall, one of Pahang’s finest national treasures. Despite this waterfall being rather secluded, many will travel a distance, like from Singapore, just to pay these falls a visit. This is a testimony to Berembun waterfall’s beauty.
Since it is located so deep within the Benom range, it is at a relatively high altitude and therefore its surrounding greenery remains untouched by development. These factors lend the waterfall area its refreshing temperature, as the thick foliage of tall trees do their best to shade visitors from most of the sun’s rays. Upon reaching the waterfalls, you will be greeted by the breeze that blows from the powerful cascades of water over the huge granite boulders of Berembun waterfall.
The waters of Berembun waterfall stream down from a series of 7 or so cascades, and are strong and cold. At the base of the waterfall is a large and deep natural pool, so if you wish to swim, you should wear a life jacket to ensure your safety. You could settle down for a nice little picnic by the beautiful waterfall, shrouded by its tall trees all around the perimeter. Let the rush of water in the background supplement the white noise to complement the laid-back mood of the visuals.
