Experience white water rafting at one of the best spots for the activity in the entirety of Malaysia on Jeram Besu river with its rapids of Class 1 to 3!
Jeram Besu is located near Benta in the state of Pahang and has rapids from class 1 to 3. It is considered one of the best spots in Malaysia for white water rafting. Rafters, kayakers and canoeists come from all over the country to experience a run down Sungai Lipis’ Jeram Besu, and Singaporean white water rafting enthusiasts are also frequent visitors to these rapids. The rapids are especially fun to tackle after a heavy rain the night before as they will swell, making the currents rougher.
Once you’re strapped into your rafting equipment, you will be put through the mandatory water confidence course which teaches you how to float on the river, sit and paddle, and how to handle a capsize so that you will know what to do in case a real one happens out on the rapids. You will also do a “man overboard” exercise which requires you to fall off a rocky ledge into a part of the river called the “Mother Rapids”, a churning, roiling section of water, but do not fear, as once you have conquered this, your adrenaline will enable you to do anything!
Besides the excitement of crashing and splashing through the rapids of Jeram Besu, you will also experience moments of tranquillity on calmer parts of the river. Cruise down these parts of the river as you sit back and enjoy the view of butterflies floating around in the air, occasionally settling down on a rock before taking off again. Look up at overhanging branches as you pass by them as you may see some white-throated kingfishers perched upon them, and Oriental pied hornbills may grace you with their presence as they glide overhead.
