Do you want to enjoy Vietnamese natural scenery while you can still channel your inner Indiana Jones and learn about the local culture? Fret not, this epic cycling and caving adventure from Hoi An to Hue will fulfil all of your dreams! Our unique trip will bring you on a 220-kilometre cycling route into the rural areas where you can enjoy the impressive countryside scenery. You will definitely not regret joining us on this journey!
Day 1 – Hoi An / Bho Hoong (70 km)
We will pick you up from your hotel in Hoi An and transfer you to the starting point of our cycling trip. In around an hour, we will reach the trailhead of the famous Ho Chi Minh Trail and begin to pedal along this former military supply route. As this trail is well known for its mountain passes and rolling terrain, get ready to ascend and descend the road on your bike here! While it may be challenging, the beautiful scenery of the mountains and lush hills in the surrounding area is definitely worth every step of the climb. After cycling throughout the day, we will approach the mountainous region bordering Laos and arrive at Bho Hoong in the afternoon.
Situated within the isolation of the verdant hills, Bho Hoong is a traditional village of the Co Tu hill tribe. Here, the local traditions and culture have been practised and preserved by the ethnic minority group away from modernity. We will spend the night at the traditional bungalows here and learn more about the native culture. If time permits, we will trek through the village and explore the surrounding jungles. At Bho Hoong, we will get to immerse in both the natural and cultural beauty of Central Vietnam. To conclude our first day, we will indulge in the scrumptious dinner prepared by the locals at the village.
Day 2 – Bho Hoong / Heaven’s Gate Cave / Bho Hoong
Today, we will head towards the Cong Troi (Heaven’s Gate) Cave by van and embark on an epic caving adventure. As the cave is located between two mountains deep inside the forest near the Bhom Lom River, you can expect some trekking activities through the river and unspoiled tropical forest before we reach the cave. After traversing for 300 meters along the cave, we will be welcomed with the magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites formed through the mineral deposits over thousands of years.
Besides exploring the cave, we will also get to try rappelling down into the cave from 50 meters above the ground and enjoy the 15-meter-rappel down the nearby waterfall. We will spend some time at the waterfall by relaxing at its pool and having our picnic lunch. After we are satisfied with our caving experience here, we will hike back to the main road and board our van to return to Bho Hoong for the night.
Day 3 – Bho Hoong / A’Luoi (80 km)
Rise and shine! We will leave the Bho Hoong village behind and continue our cycling adventure along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. We will conquer more mountain passes and cycle through the winding roads fringed by the rainforest. As we cycle through the trail, get ready to be impressed by the stunning remote mountain scenery and you can wonder how many ethnic tribes inhabit the hills here. Along the way, we will stop to have our picnic lunch.
Our main highlight for today is the historically-significant A’Luoi district where many battles between Vietnam and America had been fought during the war. With its strong ties with the war, we will learn more about the history and aftermath of the war at the A Shau Airbase of the US Marines here. We will uncover the stories and hardships experienced by the indigenous people to have a deeper understanding of what the war meant for their livelihoods. As we wrap up our visit here, we will cycle into the A’Luoi town and retreat for the night.
Day 4 – A’Luoi / Hue (70 km)
Our final day of adventure will be spent along the scenic mountain road as we descend down to the imperial city of Hue. While cycling through the fantastic mountain range, we will pass by the rolling green hills and crystal-clear streams running down the hillsides. As we enjoy the countryside scenery, we will arrive at the Binh Dien Village where we will learn more about the local livelihoods. Here, we will discover how the locals cultivate their coffee farms and work on the rubber trees. After we have our hands-on experience here, our trip concludes as we transfer you to your hotel in Hue.
