Day 1 – Hoi An / Hai Van Pass / Lang Co Beach (50 km)
Our trip begins when we pick you up from your hotel in Hoi An and transfer you to our starting point at Thuan Phuoc Bridge. From here, we will cycle for 15 kilometres on flat terrain and prepare ourselves for the 10-kilometre climb to the summit of Hai Van Pass. This mountain pass is a part of the Annamite Mountain Range which is located 500 metres above the sea level. Dubbed as the “Pass of the Ocean Clouds”, Hai Van Pass is considered to be the most stunning mountain pass in Vietnam and even being recognized by BBC Top Gear as the best coastal road in the world. When we reach the top of this pass, get ready to be rewarded with the astonishing scenery of the coastline and mountain range.
After a short break at the summit, we will continue riding downhill for 10 kilometres and head towards the beautiful Lang Co Beach. With over 10 kilometre of white sand, Lang Co Beach boasts the beauty of vast blue ocean over the mountain range. While we pedal through the trail, we will get a bird’s-eye view of the impressive lagoon. As we reach the bottom of this pass, we will stop to enjoy our picnic lunch. Once we fill our stomach, we will cycle the rim of Lang Co Lagoon for 15 kilometres on flat terrain before we enter the town. We will check in to our accommodation for the night and you are free to enjoy the afternoon by chilling or swimming in the ocean.
Day 2 – Phuoc Tuong Pass / Ghost City / Thanh Toan Covered Bridge / Hue (62 km)
Rise and shine! Before we check out of the hotel, let’s begin the day by having a scrumptious breakfast to prepare us for today’s journey. Our vehicle will transfer us from Lang Co to the starting point of our cycling track. In 20 minutes, we will arrive at the bottom of Phuoc Tuong Pass and begin our 10-kilometre ride passing by the beach villages, small hills and cajuput forest. This particular section of our cycling trip will bring us closer to nature as we ride through the lush bamboo and casuarina forest. We will have a pleasant ride here as the greeneries shelter us from the scorching sun.
Along the way, we will pay a visit to the famous Ghost City, a tiny fishing village famous for its elaborate tomb tradition. We will watch the performance of local people carrying out the traditional customs of Central Vietnam. Besides learning about the culture, don’t miss out on the chance to admire the ornate tombs with designs ranging from Buddhist-style temples to Gothic tombs with Romanesque columns here. Next, we will continue to cycle towards Truong Ha Bridge for around 5 kilometre and notice how the iconic scenery of the countryside slowly unfolds. As we pass by the extensive paddy fields and scenic rivers, we will arrive at the Thanh Toan Covered Bridge. This ornately decorated Japanese-style bridge is the perfect place for a short break where we can observe the locals getting about their lives. We could witness the rural lifestyle as people commute to schools, the local market and temples. Finally, we will complete our journey by cycling to Hue for around 7 kilometres across a huge paddy field. This marks the end of our challenging yet fun cycling adventure.
