Discover Hoi An’s beautiful countryside and immerse yourself in local culture through this off-the-beaten-path cycling tour!
As one of the well-preserved traditional trading ports in South East Asia, Hoi An has invited tourists from all over the world with its famous historic landscape and diverse culture. While tourists flock to the city, you can venture across the river and discover the photogenic countryside with this tour. You can escape the crowded city and embark on this off-the-beaten-path cycling adventure.
Before we start our journey, we will gather at the designated meeting point and meet our local guide who will brief us on the safety procedures and perform bike fitting. We will then begin the tour by cycling through the hidden alleyways and stopping by the iconic Japanese bridge for a photograph in the historical district of Hoi An. As we continue to cycle across the canal bridge and the new metal bike bridge, we will enter the countryside and arrive at the southern villages of Quang Nam province. There are many hidden trails around the villages that we can explore to gain insights into the local livelihoods.
As the best way to experience the countryside is to enjoy it like a local, we will taste the typical breakfast staple here, Banh Dap. The signature rice flour delicacies are prepared by a local family using the traditional method. After filling up our tummies, we will continue riding through the beautiful village of Hoi An and meet another family to learn about the local tradition. Our host who is a 90-year-old American war veteran will teach us about the religious traditions and significance of the family chapels. If we are lucky, he might also share his war experiences with us.
Our cycling adventure continues along the back roads only known among locals and we can truly experience the authentic countryside’s appeals. While heading towards our next destination, make sure you pay close attention to the picturesque surroundings. We will pedal past extensive rice fields and vegetable farms along the beautiful waterways and small canals before arriving at a wooden boat-building site. As fishing is still a primary local livelihood, you can witness the construction of these boats and observe how the locals prepare nets for their fishing expeditions. This unique sight is definitely something you can only view in the countryside.
Before heading back to the city, we will make our final stops at a traditional mat weaving shop and a family-owned rice wine distillery. You can admire the local craftsmanship and take a break after cycling throughout the tour. You may also taste the local authentic rice wine which has been produced using the same method for generations. For our trip back to the city, we will board a local ferry and you can enjoy the charming scenery of Hoi An’s waterfront. Once we arrive at the dock, we will continue cycling for 5 minutes and end the tour at the meeting point. If you are visiting Hoi An, this tour is definitely worth your while as it provides a different taste of the city through its wonderful countryside.
