Immerse yourself into the daily life of a local and learn more about the unique cultivating and farming technique that requires minimal chemical intervention.
Start your day by meeting up with your friendly guide at the hotel at around 8:00 A.M. in the morning. Afterwards, you will continue making your way to Tra Que village by bicycle and explore the local market. Practise and sharpen your bargaining skills and head south-east to Hoi An Central Market, one of Vietnam’s best shopping district. The market is busy throughout the day with locals bargaining hard alongside tourists so it’s best to arrive first thing in the morning. There, you will notice the sweet smell of herbs and spices filling the air and sellers offering different products for sale. There will also be a vast array of food for sale including spices such as saffron and cinnamon which are all up for grabs with their affordable prices. Due to its riverside location, there will also be a huge selection of fresh fish available for you to choose from.
Then continue biking along the countryside while simultaneously taking pictures of the beautiful countryside and its inhabitants ranging from shrimp farms, duck farms, cows, birds, and buffalos. After passing through towns and quiet roads, you will arrive at Tra Que vegetable village. As you make your way into the village, you will get the chance to taste the basil juice as your welcome drink. Then, feel free to stroll around the village and meet up with locals working in the garden. This beautiful quaint village is home to about 150 farmers and 400 owners where they cultivate about 20 different types of vegetables and herbs (including mint, lettuce, basil, cilantro and broccoli among others). More than 40 hectares of land and 8 tons of Tra Que vegetables are sold every year and you will be happy to know that the vegetable grown here do not use pesticides and are not GMOs. Instead, the farmers rely on a seaweed species found in the local river that is harvested every morning. Get the chance to immerse yourself into the life of a local farmer and learn about their daily lives. The local farmers will be happy to teach you their cultivation methods and how you can protect your vegetables from insects and pests. You will also join the farmers in various gardening activities such as raking the field, sowing seeds, watering greens, transplanting, and tending the crops. Once you finish farming, you will have a nice therapeutic foot bath with medicinal herbs to relieve those tired legs of yours.
Next, you will also prepare lunch with a local family where you will have the opportunity to learn about traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Learn how to make the famous 'Tam Huu' spring roll and 'Banh Xeo' pancake, adding them to the repertoire of your own cookbook as you enjoy your lunch session together with the family. Do help yourself to the delicious food, be sure to bond with the local family and share some of your own stories over the table. This is also the perfect time to ask and learn more about their daily life and livelihood before returning back to your accommodation.
