Journey through The Habitat in Penang Hill and discover more about the Malaysian rainforest and its wild inhabitants
Become one with nature on this guided tour in Penang Hill’s latest addition, The Habitat. The Habitat has been referred to as a world-class eco-tourism attraction and is located on the fringes of a 130-million-year old rainforest. This 10-acre piece of land is almost entirely untouched, with only 25% of it consisting of landscaped gardens. Stroll through the smooth, 1.6km path on land that was built by the British East India Company in the early 1800s, marking it a historical site.
Take in the sights and sounds of this lush rainforest as you walk the Nature Trail. You will be lead by experienced and specially trained guides called “Naturalists.” Soak in the wonders of this large, dense greenery as the Naturalists tell you all about the not only the plants and trees that inhabit this land but also the special relationship the animals that call it home have with the rainforest. As this wide expanse of land has been preserved to be as untouched as possible, the wildlife in this fertile rainforest is abundant. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to spot Dusty Leaf Monkeys, high up in the canopy of the trees. You might also be able to spot one of the world’s largest species of squirrel, the Giant Black Squirrel, scurrying along the thick branches of the trees.
Taste nature’s own resources as you walk through the diverse ecosystem. Sample some of the different medicinal plants you can find the dense rainforest and try spicy flavour of the wild ginger flowers. Relax your mind and breath in the fresh scent of the dewy forest and prepare yourself for a day of education and enjoyment.
