Tour Description:

The Bajau Laut is the term given to the seafaring experts of the Bajau community. This indigenous group is also famously known as the ‘sea gypsies’. This day trip is certainly packed with adventure. The drive to Gayang village will surely be one filled with lots of exciting snapshots of the scenic spots. Once you reach there, you will be able to relax and chat around as you are served with light refreshments.

Then, you will embark on your next journey—the boat trip! The cruise past this unique village will showcase houses built on stilts. You will also have the opportunity to actually see the people performing their daily duties. Having lived on the ocean for generations, their main source of living is fishing, pearl farming and collecting mussels and clams.

Your guide will also explain to you about the beautiful and enchanting mangrove forests and you will learn the resilience of these trees as they do not only provide shelter but also protection against strong winds and tides. Then, try out your fisherman’s luck at crab catching while observing the folks do their daily tasks, be it fishing or pearl farming. After the boat trip, the crab traps will be collected and you will get to see if Lady Luck was on your side!

Then back to dry land and your next activity will be batik painting. You will get to unleash all your creativity skills or just have fun in one of Malaysia's major cottage industries. And the best part of it all is that you will get to take your masterpiece home as a souvenir! This 5-hour trip will certainly not disappoint you as you will be exposed to the lives of the seafaring Bajau Laut people as well as Sabah’s colourful and beautiful batik painting industry.
