Step out into the wild and explore Gading National Park, a dense rainforest that is home to beautiful cascades and a diverse range of flora and fauna.
When one speaks of Sarawak, one would automatically attribute it to the rare Rafflesia flower; a flower with a killer reputation, not just for being the world’s largest flower but also its incredible gag-inducing smell! A two-hour journey from your hotel, the park was gazetted in 1983 and was opened to the public in 1994. Aside from the Rafflesia, the park, comprising of a dense tropical rainforest is home to other rare plants, gorgeous cascades and silvery streams, some of which you would encounter on jungle trails. The park also comprises of four incredible mountain peaks—Gunung Gading, Gunung Sebuloh, Gunung Lundu, Gunung Perigi—a boon for hikers! For those who would love a challenge, the park has a summit trek which would require you to be physically fit.
Though the Rafflesia is the main attraction, do note that it has a brief flowering period and blooms rather infrequently. The parasitic plant grows on a host plant and can stretch up to a metre in width when in full bloom. Enjoy the tranquil forest scenery as you tread on a boarded walkway, deeper into the forest while accompanied by park rangers in search of this incredible flower. Lasting only a mere week, the rare flower is truly a sight to behold, with an odour to remember—earning the nickname “corpse flower”. After the 8-hour tour, we will return you to your hotel for you to get some well-deserved rest.
