Enjoy Flores’ nature on this adventure that will take you to Rinca and Komodo Island to visit the endemic Komodo dragon, snorkel at Manta Point amongst Manta rays, take scenic photos at Kelimutu’s tricoloured lakes, and more!
Day 1 – Denpasar / Ende / Moni
Arrive in Ende and meet your guide who will bring you to Moni, but not before stopping by Detusoko, the famous emerald terraces of rice paddies set against a lush backdrop of valleys and rainforests. When you arrive in Moni, check in to your accommodation and have some rest before tomorrow’s activities.
Day 2 – Moni / Kelimutu Lakes / Bajawa
To witness the sunrise at Kelimutu volcano, wake up early and head down to the crater lakes. The tricoloured crater lakes can change colours according to the season and the level of oxides within them. They usually range from blue to green or red. Move on to the Saga and Wologai villages where you can observe how the locals carry out their daily lives. Have your lunch at a local restaurant in Ende then en route to Bajawa, stop by Penggajawa Blue Stone Beach. Here, local women scrutinize the blue and grey stones to collect the best to be sold as garden decorations.
Day 3 – Bajawa / Ruteng
After your breakfast at the hotel, head out to Bena, a traditional village of the Bajawa tribes. At Bena you will find that the locals still hold on to the belief of ancestral spirits and still maintain their traditional way of life. En route to Ruteng you will have your lunch and make a stop by Inerie volcano for a photo session. Stop by Aimere village, too, so you can see how “arak” is distilled and how fresh palm juice is tapped. At Ranamese Lake you can see the peak of Mount Inerie. Once you arrive in Ruteng, check in to your hotel and visit “Liang Bua”, the home of the Homo Florensies, in the afternoon.
Day 4 – Ruteng / Labuan Bajo
Have your breakfast at the hotel then travel to the western tip of Flores, Labuan Bajo. Stop by Lembor or Cancar to see “Lingko”, the unique spiderweb-shaped rice paddy fields. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Labuan Bajo, after which you can have the rest of the day to yourself until dinner and sleep.
Day 5 – Labuan Bajo / Rinca Island / Kalong Island
Get transferred to the pier of Labuan Bajo to visit Rinca Island where you will find Komodo dragons along with various other tropical wildlife. Trek through the dry forests of Rinca Island with the guidance of a local ranger who will lead the way. Proceed to Kalong Island by boat in the late afternoon to watch as hundreds of flying foxes leaving the mangrove forests at sunset. Lunch, dinner and an overnight rest will all be had onboard the boat.
Day 6 – Komodo Island / Pink Beach / Manta Point / Labuan Bajo
Sail onwards to Lohliang, the Ranger station at Komodo Island, after breakfast. Begin your trek through the forests to find more Komodo dragons, this time again with an experienced local ranger guiding your trek. Return to the boat later and head to Pink Beach for some swimming or snorkelling to discover beautiful coral and fish. Continue on the Manta Point where you may snorkel amongst these large gentle Manta rays. Lunch will be served onboard and you will return to Labuan Bajo in the afternoon.
Day 7 – Labuan Bajo / Denpasar
Your last day here will be spent by city sightseeing. Visit Batu Cermin (Mirror Stone) Cave, a limestone cave whose inner walls are smooth and reflect light just like how mirrors do. At the local market, peruse the assortment of fresh produce and local handicrafts. When you’ve finished your last minute shopping for souvenirs, head to the airport and catch your flight back to Denpasar.
