Experience a vintage-styled tour: exploring the local market, traditional bronze casting village and My Son sanctuary by motorbike.
Let’s kickstart the trip by doing something every Vietnamese does every morning - going to a market. The local market is located next to a river, so if you come to the market early in the morning, there is a chance to buy some freshly caught seafood. People also call it the “culinary paradise”, as there is a variety of cheap delicious snacks and dishes for you to explore and try. Cao Lau, Mi Quang…are one of the few “must-try” on the food list. Take a visit to cloth shops if you are interested in getting a tailored costume on the very same day.
After exploring the market, let’s hop on the motorbike and head to the Phuoc Kieu Bronze Casting Village. Phuoc Kieu has a history of over 400 years of age, dating back to the Nguyen Dynasty. It is most famous for its gongs. Numerous ethnics groups from the Central Highlands of Vietnam use the village’s gong, and the village is always busy with upcoming orders. Everything made in the village - gongs, bronze statues - are handcrafted. Meet and talk to Mr Duong Ngoc Sang, one of the oldest casting artists in Phuoc Kieu. He is a legend for his intonation - the realization of pitch accuracy - in this case, the gong’s pitch accuracy. Learn more about the traditional occupation of bronze casting, something close to rare in the modern industrialized world.
Continue on your trip to My Son Sanctuary, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The temple complex spiritual origin relates to the Hinduism of India. This is impressively and graphically illustrated by the remains of the tower temples. Not only was My Son the religious, but also the political capital of the ancient Champa Kingdom. Don’t forget to pay attention to the small details of the property, as they are all constructed religiously. Understand more about a very ancient yet unique feature of Vietnam. A delightful lunch by the river on the way back will wrap up your full-of-discovery vintage-styled tour on a Vespa.
