The Nam Ou river is one of the crucial tributaries to the Mekong river and it is important to Laos as the river is a mode of transportation of goods. Near the confluence between these two rivers, you will discover the highly respected Pak Ou caves filled with Buddha statues overlooking the rivers. Your day commences with a boat ride upon the Nam Ou river to a small village located a stone’s throw away from the Nam Ou river. In the local village, you will discover the villagers carrying out their daily lives and also their culture from interacting with the friendly villagers. Then, you will take the dirt trails that will take you to your next stop. Pass by gorgeous rice paddies that stretch far and also small streams flowing through before you hear the sounds of water flowing.
Reach upon the gorgeous 100 waterfall, which has only been on the radar recently and travelled to by foreigners, which is during the late 2000s. Upon arrival, you will be at the base of the 100 waterfall, where you splash around in the cool pool below. Bask in the marvellous nature as you explore the 100 waterfall. Walk upon the varying terrain, which stretches to about 2 kilometres upwards to different levels of height. Some of the terrains may even include rocky path near the riverbed to the makeshift bamboo ladders along the steep paths. After exploring the stunning 100 waterfalls, you will be provided with a delectable lunch and indulge in to taste the wonderful flavours of Laos, that will be consumed within the middle of the waterfall.
Take the trails again from the top of the waterfall that is used by the local villagers, which will lead you away from the waterfall and to the village. Behold the stunning sights along the Nam Ou valley, overcrowded with old-growth forests that thrive within the fertile lands. The Nam Ou valley lacks well-paved roads and still carries the natural charm of the olden days without being too overcrowded by people along the trails. Upon arrival to the village, you will be greeted by the friendly smiles of the inhabitants as they are engaged in their daily activities before heading back to Nong Khiaw along a small boat.
