Go canyon diving and hiking at Cunca Wulang’s beautiful waterfall to experience the beauty of Flores’ nature!
Cunca Wulang is located 30 kilometres east of Labuan Bajo and is nestled in the heart of a tropical rainforest. It is one of Flores’ most striking spots for outdoor activities with its impressive waterfalls that cascade into gorgeous freshwater pools and a series of smaller waterfalls. These smaller waterfalls lead into more pools and rivers several kilometres downstream. The name behind the attraction refers to a circular hole that looks like a moon in the waterfall.
Cunca means waterfall and Wulang means a moon in the local language, hence the name Cunca Wulang. The circular hole was once believed to be a secret place for locals to beg for rain from God during drier seasons. Ceremonies used to be held by the hole and the hole is believed to extend deep onto the rock with no end point. Canyoning is one of the top sports to be done here, but other activities such as hiking and swimming can also be done.
Hiking from Cunca Wulang to Wersawe Village is adorned with the view of paddy fields in various stages of cultivation ad harvesting. You can also see plantations of vanilla, coffee, candlenut and cacao along the trail, and along the last leg of the trek, you will trek down a steep terrain that leads you through a section of thick and verdant tropical rainforest. At the village, you can get fresh coconut water from young coconuts which are refreshing and sweet from the locals, and other delicacies can also be found here. Return to Labuan Bajo after for a dinner and an overnight stay at the accommodation of your choice.
