Ride along the outskirts of Chiang Mai under the mountain of Doi Suthep for a cycling adventure filled with spectacular sceneries.
Chiang Mai is a big city in the northern part of Thailand. Other than Bangkok, many backpackers and tourists love to visit Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is a city which has a rich history and culture due to its ancient history. Besides that, the nightlife in Chiang Mai is also very interesting. In addition to that, the street foods and local cuisines in Chiang Mai is also famous among tourists and locals. However, Chiang Mai is not only about the colourful city life and delicious street foods, but the outskirts of Chiang Mai also has a beautiful landscape with rolling hills, vast fields, wide rivers and lush green forests. This tour will bring you to explore these amazing sceneries with the best way possible, by cycling.
Just West of Chiang Mai, you will see the majestic mountain of Doi Suthep. The Doi Suthep mountain houses the famous Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep which is a sacred site for many of the Buddhists in Thailand. There is a loop around the mountain that directs to the peaceful district of Samoeng. The bike is the best way to complete the 75 kilometres loop around the mountain and back to Chiang Mai. The trails around the mountain consists of tarmac road and undulating terrain along with lush green forests which makes the journey to the Chiang Mai outskirts even better. We will pick you up from your hotel in Chiang Mai and then transfer to Royal Park Rajapruek. Upon reaching the royal park, we will prepare ourselves for the cycling journey. We start with a leisure ride through quiet country roads and past flourishing forests that has a small climb. We then continue to cycle on a bigger road that brings us past fruitful orchards and lush plantations ready for harvest.
After about 10 kilometres of easy riding, we will reach our first long ascent which is around 10 kilometres up to 810 metres. Once past the ascending part, it will be a descent with some steep sharps. Then, we ride straight to the village of Samoeng for our lunch. A luscious local lunch will be served to recharge your energy for the cycling later. This area was the first settlement of Lanna people, who were trying to escape from a Burmese conquer in the 18th century. Once we are done with lunch and resting, we hop on our bikes to continue our journey. We will be cycling past more hills where the first one is a doozy, 600 metres in 8 kilometres! We stop at the top of the climb to have a view on the Samoeng forest. After a short break, we continue our ride through the valley of Mae Sa River where we will see many greenhouses and fields cultivated by the Hmong tribes in the area. Alas, we will end our journey on a flat canal road to let our legs recover from the climbing. We will transfer back to Chiang Mai and drop you off back at your hotel.
