At the north of Thailand, lies Chiang Mai the colourful and historical city in many ways. The cool Chiang Mai weather gives a different vibe from the rest of the country. It is also a fine mixture of both traditional and contemporary lifestyles all over the city. Although the city is different from Bangkok, it has a lot of interesting attractions and places to see. There are beautiful temples, local markets, delicious street foods, beautiful landscapes and many more. Chiang Mai certainly offers you more than what you expect. This tour brings you to go deeper into the lifestyle and culture of Chiang Mai and visit a few famous attractions.
At first, we will meet at our designated meeting point and prepare ourselves for the ride. Once we are ready, we will start our journey with a relaxing ride along the banks of the scenic Ping River. You can enjoy the impressive riverside views as you ride. This tour introduces you to the Thai culture and the best way to do it by doing the same things as the locals do. We will visit temples and markets along the way and your guide will explain to you about the importance of Buddhism in Thai culture. You will also be able to see some beautiful colonial style white buildings such as a church and a hospital on the way.
The Ping River is one of the two main tributaries in Chao Phraya River. As we pass by some beautiful traditional teak houses by the river, we can wave to the Thai men fishing in the Ping River. Then, we will continue our ride to a grassy parkland and stop for some fruits and a cool drink. After that, we will cycle to the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam from the 13th century. As we explore the ancient city, we will visit an ancient temple which has a spirit house where a former king’s spirit is said to reside. The temple was excavated in the 1980s after being buried under the mud of the river.
Once finish exploring the ancient city, we will continue our journey and ride back into Chiang Mai’s old city through Tha Pae Gate. The grand Tha Pae Gate stands as the symbol of the once glorious kingdom. Then, we stop at the Somphet market to look at the local fresh herbs that make northern Thai food so special. At the end of our tour, we will be at the same meeting point as we started in the morning.
