Head up the Black Lady Mountain and stop by Cao Dai Temple to learn more about the practice and belief behind Caodaism.
Also known as Black Virgin Mountain, the Black Lady Mountain is an inactive volcano located in Tay Ninh Province. The mountain itself also lies in the path of Cu Chi Tunnel but the top of the mountain is only accessible via a cable car ride. Spreading over a length of 24 km, this mountain houses a selection of quaint and calm temples and caves used by local monks and nuns to pray and meditate. Find out more about the charm and subtle beauty of the mountain as you make your way to the top of the mountain from your hotel.
From Ho Chi Minh, you will depart for Tay Ninh Province, an area near the Vietnamese-Cambodian border, and visit the Black Lady Mountain located approximately 11 km from Tay Ninh. You will then take an exhilarating cable car ride to the mountain for a panoramic view of the beautiful surrounding region, including three major mountains covering an area of 24 km (and reaching an altitude of 986 meters). Here, the beautiful temples and caves primarily used to house Buddhist monks and nuns remain largely undisturbed and they are the perfect spot for your photo hunting experience. Next, you will proceed to Cao Dai Holy Temple. The temple itself includes complex houses, administrative offices, and residences for officials and also has its own hospital for traditional Vietnamese herbal medicine production that attracts people from all over the south for treatments.
Exploring further, you will find that the temple is home to Cao Dai sects who practice a unique hybrid of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity. Up near the altar are portraits of important Caodaism figures: Sakyamuni (Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism), Ly Thai Bach (Li Taibai, a fairy from Chinese mythology), Khuong Tu Nha (Jiang Taigong, a Chinese saint), Laotse (the founder of Taoism), Quan Cong (Guangong, Chinese God of War) and Quan Am (Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy). They also include two patron saints namely Sun Yat-Sen, Victor Hugo and Nguyen Binh Khiem. Feel free to pay respect and pray in front of the altar as you go around and explore the temple interior further.
