Retreat to the hill stations of Cameron Highlands and experience the misty forests, tea plantation and numerous farms.
We begin the day’s adventures with a visit to the emerald green fields of the BOH Tea Plantation in Sungei Palas, Southeast Asia’s largest tea plantation. Admire nature’s breathtaking beauty as our guide leads you to the prime spot for your best viewing experience of the 8000-acre tea plantation. Learn more about tea cultivation from our experienced guide.
Our exciting adventure continues towards the highest peak in Cameron Highlands, Mount Brinchang (as high as 2,031 metres above sea level), on a four-wheel drive. When we reach the top you will be rewarded with the most stunning view, stretching as far as Malacca on a good day. The scenic beauty can be further enhanced from the observation tower. Marvel at the sight of the different species of birds that soar through the sky at the peak.
Next up, an experience not to be missed is the Mossy Forest. Also known as the Cloud Rainforest, prepare to discover some of the most exotic flora nature has to offer as we trek through the lush forest, such as orchids, primitive ferns, spices, pitcher plants and medicinal plants. Being an ideal biotope to house moss, ferns, lichen and other flora, this moist tropical rainforest is also home to many fauna such as snakes, frogs, birds, and other interesting animals that are unique to its cool environment.
As you stroll along the trail, take in the enchanting atmosphere of this dewy tropical rainforest and its strong ancient trees boasting lush greenery wrapped around its bodies. After exploring the charming Mossy Forest, we will journey back to the Sungei Palas Boh Estate for tea time!
Explore the factory at the tea plantation where the tea making process is explained and demonstrated such as sorting and drying the tea leaves. You can read about the history, how the tea plantation was founded by J.A. Russel, a British businessman in 1929 and stages of tea processing. Grasp this opportunity to purchase the lovely tea products and souvenirs at the shop to enjoy when you’re back home, especially if you are a tea lover!
Don’t forget to head towards BOH Tea Cafe where this restaurant-cum-viewing deck offers a tranquil and refreshing ambience as you enjoy a cup of warm tea and the mesmerising panoramic view. Immerse yourself in this captivating experience as you wait for your scrumptious strawberry tart and buttery scones.
Our journey continues towards the Market Square, a vegetable and fruit market offering a variety of affordable fresh produce. Here you can purchase many famous items in Cameron Highlands such as strawberries, cheap and fresh vegetables, sweet potatoes, bundles of pretty blooming flowers and even Cameron apples that are an exclusive hybrid only available in Cameron Highlands.
Next stop we will be heading towards the Butterfly Farm located near Kea Farm. This zoological garden and live insect gallery offer more than just a diverse range of butterflies; this large enclosure also encompasses an interesting collection of beetles, mantids, phasmids of various shapes and sizes. They even have a tortoise pen, reptile exhibit and a scorpion pond! Naturally, its main attraction is the hundreds of butterflies that flutter freely about. You can actually get quite close to these stunning creatures and their extraordinarily alluring wings which include the Rajah Brookes among many other species.
Moving on, Big Red Strawberry Farm, also known as Taman Agro Tourism, is a strawberry lover’s paradise. This agricultural centre is located on a steep hill slope overlooking Brinchang town centre and is famous for growing strawberries and organic vegetables. Large scale hydroponic farming is practised and you can admire the arrays of green coral vegetables and butterhead lettuce among them. There are a product shop and vegetable market where you can purchase the goods that have been organically grown in the area.
A popular activity here is strawberry picking. You can pick your own strawberries from the endless rows of juicy strawberry plantations that are grown and place them in the basket you have obtained from the staff. Space is also efficiently used with rows of parsley growing underneath the strawberries. When you are done picking your strawberries, you can return them to the staff for packaging to be sold in their store, or you can even opt to purchase them. After that, you can enjoy some edible strawberry goods at their cafe, offering all types of strawberry treats like milkshakes, ice cream, waffles, pancakes and even cakes.
Next on our adventure is the magnificent Sam Poh Buddhist Temple, located atop a hill overlooking Brinchang. The fourth largest temple in the country is surrounded by a bright yellow wall and houses a large statue of Lord Buddha along with a variety of brass deities from similar regions. With the smell of incense burning in the background, many have come to offer their prayers, paying their respect to those who have passed on. Note that shoes have to be removed before entering the temple halls. Enjoy the peaceful, serene environment as you admire the intricately designed oriental architecture.
Lastly, we will stop at the Time Tunnel Museum, a collection of memorabilia and past artefacts and photographs taking you back to the 50s and 60s of Cameron Highlands. Get a glimpse of the past as you enter displays of coffee shops, barber shops, kitchens back in the day. There are even displays of animal and fishing traps made by natives as well as tools and apparatus such as sewing machines, woks, abacus and televisions.
