Day 1 - Nong Khiaw Town / Nam Ou River / Hmong Village
Start your exhilarating adventure at the stunning town of Nong Khiaw that is nestled in between rising limestone crags covered in dense forests. The Nong Khiaw offers a serene atmosphere of the Northern Laos, which attracts an abundance of tourists that look to either relax within the gorgeous surroundings or to challenge themselves to exceed their own limits. From Nong Khiaw that is a stone’s throw away from the Nam Ou river, you will head to a small village that is located 40 minutes away by car. Commence your journey along the beaten trail to the trailhead of the waterfall. Bask in the glorious lush jungle and behold hints of vibrant green of the leaves as you stroll along the trail.
Discover an abundance of flora that thrives amongst the fertile lands, which includes towering trees, ferns, moss-covered rocks and many more! Take the trail through an upward hike to the base of the waterfall that is within the depths of the jungle. Hear the sounds of the water gushing through the limestone formations as you reach the peak of the mountain trail and reach upon a plateau as you advance through the trail. Be surrounded by rice paddies that stretch through the horizon when you proceed upon a flat land and continue your trek until you step foot upon the quaint Hmong Village.
The village is the humble abode of the Hmong people that live a rural lifestyle in simple houses that are scattered all over the region. The Hmong people are usually involved in farming as a way to gain some resources for the village. Gain some insight of the culture and customs of the Hmong people by meeting and interacting with the friendly local villagers, with the aid of the guide. After the exploration of the Hmong village, you will be provided with a delectable dinner, that will be served in a local-style and it will fill your hungry tummy. After a long day, you will head to the homestay and rest your head upon a comfortable pillow to take a good night sleep.
Day 2 - Jungle Trek
Awake in the tranquil environment of the Hmong village as you hear the movement of villagers starting their daily tasks in a distance. Fill your tummy with some delicious breakfast, which will replenish your energy stores before you begin your exciting journey. Start your trekking adventure along the beaten paths, where you will pass by stunning valleys that adds beauty to the atmosphere. Catch the sight of the striking outline of jungle-covered mountains that tower over the region. Take the opportunity to discover an abundance of flora and fauna that prosper harmoniously with one another as you take the trails. After an exhausting trek, you will be served a delicious Lao-style lunch and taste the flavours of Laos.
Find your pace as you traverse along the trail to the remote village, that is located along the mountainside. Be greeted by the friendly visitors that are engaged in the daily activities and catch the sights of joyous village children running about the narrow streets. Engage and learn about the unique culture and customs of the people residing in the serene village. At your own time and abilities, take the chance to explore the upper part of the mountain that contains a village filled with affable inhabitants. Gaze at the spectacular view from the top of the mountain, where you will see the outline of mountain peaks. As the dark night slowly approaches, you will be given a delicious dinner that will replenish your hungry tummy. You will be residing in the family home of one of the friendly villagers for the night of rest after an exhausting journey.
Day 3 - Descent from the Mountains / Departure
On your final day, you will awaken feeling refreshed after a great sleep in the serene village, in the midst of a mountain. You will consume a hearty breakfast before you begin your journey to descent the striking mountain. Bask in the cool environment as you traverse along the roads of the village in the morning and observe the villagers as they begin their daily tasks. Take the shorter trail from the village in the mountainside and discover the beauty that surrounds the trail, from soaring green trees to the vast expanse of the clear sky. Then, you will pass by a wide stretch of rice paddy fields that prosper in the fertile land along the beaten trail. Reach upon your final stop, which is a tranquil village that is safely nestled adjacent to the Nam Ou river. The total trekking distance is 7 kilometres along a beaten path and it will require at least 2.5 hours to complete the entire trail. Say your final goodbyes to the lovely village before you depart on a vehicle to Nong Khiaw.
