Day 1 - Elephant Village Camp/ Leisure Activities
Your journey begins with by heading to the ancient city of Luang Prabang that sits at the northern part of Laos. The ancient city is situated in the midst of tall mountains that reaches to about 600 meters in height and it is a stone’s throw away from the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. In 1995, the city was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as the city is filled with an abundance of splendid palaces and with more than 30 ancient Wats that is deeply embedded in history.
Your first stop would to the Elephant Village Camp that is an elephant sanctuary whose aim is to protect and rehabilitate elephants through tourism and the camp was first established in 2001. Upon arrival to the camp, you will be warmly greeted by the friendly guide that will make your experience at the camp more memorable and then you will be given a short briefing regarding the elephants in the camp. A reusable aluminium water bottle will so be given as a way to promote the reduction of usage of plastic bottles.
You will have the opportunity to interact with the docile elephants when you feed them with an abundance of fruits. After meeting with the friendly giants, you will explore the camp where you will stumble upon various facilities, which include an elephant hospital, where you will be able to see treatments being provided for the animals. Learn more about the elephants in the camp and behold stunning photos of the elephants when you visit the elephant museum and photo gallery. Gain some insight on a more eco-friendly method of making paper with elephant dung, made by the locals in the camp.
Become a Mahout by learning from the trained experts where you will experience how it feels like to control an elephant. Then, you will traverse through the serene atmosphere of the jungle surrounding the elephant camp whilst riding atop the friendly giants without any saddle along the 1-kilometre long river. Interact with two cute baby elephants that reside in the luscious jungle across the river.
Bask in the glory of nature as you ride along the traditional Laos longboat en route to the natural Tad Sae Waterfall. Feel the mists upon your skin as you relax near the waterfall and swim in the cooling waters where you will surely feel refreshed afterwards. After a long day, you will dine at the Elephant camp restaurant where you will indulge in some delectable cuisine that will be served buffet style, which will surely fill your tummy.
Spend the evening with the elephants where you will have a chance to ride atop the elephants to bring them to their resting place where they will spend the night. After spending some time with the elephants, you will delight yourself for dinner at the Elephant camp restaurant and taste the delicious local food. After an exhausting day spent, you will head to the Elephant Lodge to slumber for a night with the spectacular view of the Nam Khan river.
Day 2 - Elephant Bathing/ Breakfast/ Departure
Awake to the sounds of the wildlife slowly coming to life after their sleep and feel the serenity of the Lao jungle in the morning. Your adventure starts by bringing an elephant of your choice from their humble abode and giving them a bath in the river which will be filled with laughter and smiles. Then, you will be provided with a delectable breakfast which will be served in a set menu style with coffee or tea and some drinking water that will leave you feeling refreshing after an exciting bathing session. You have finally reached the end of your journey and you will leave the camp with a desire for more exciting adventure.
