This led to him opening the Boh Tea Plantation in Cameron Highlands and soon, the iconic landmark will be celebrating its 90th birthday. The plantation itself is divided into two sections: one is situated before Tanah Rata at a lower altitude while the other is further up and closer to the Brinchang peak, known as the Sungai Palas Plantation. Complement your journey to Boh Tea Plantation by visiting Boh Tea Estate and witness the tea production process. The estate serves as a time capsule and museum for a time-proven production process of Boh Tea. In the 89 years’ time since it was first founded, Boh Tea has remained one of the highest producing tea company in Malaysia. Today, its 40 million kg of annual tea output accounts for about 70% of Malaysian tea output! In order to maintain the original and true taste of the tea, the factory is located close to the plantation. This proximity allows for the immediate processing of the tea leaves without fear of having to transport the leaves over long distance and risk deteriorating the quality of the leaves. Aside from quality control, the sole owner of the processing unit also gives Boh Tea more room to manufacture new products.
The free tour is provided in the estate every 30 minutes as a group. You will have to wait for a number of people to gather before the tour commences but it usually does not take long before a crowd is formed. During your tour, you will be able to see the different manufacturing processes involved in tea production. This includes where the leaves are fed, the treatment of the tea leaves and the packaging process of the leaves. Your tour guide will also talk you through the history of Boh Tea and how the business has evolved throughout the years. Feel free to ask any question you have in mind to the guides and they will be more than happy to explain.
As you explore the estate, do not forget to snap your camera and take some good pictures. After all, it is not every day that you can say you have been to a tea production plant.

The Bharat Tea Plantation first started in 1933 and sold their tea produce to a nearby factory. Soon after in 1952, the plantation then took over the factory at the Agricultural Research Centre on a contractual basis on Cameron Highlands. During this period, they tried processing and packaging their first own tea branded under the name “Chop Rusa”. Again in 1963, the Bharat Tea Plantation acquired the Shalimar Estate with its onsite tea-processing factory and had by then firmly established its foot in the tea industry with flourishing sales network and major tea stakeholders. Today, Bharat Tea Plantation stands as the producer of fine Malaysian highland tea, becoming major suppliers to renowned tea brands in Malaysia.
Walk through the verdant lush garden of tea as you make your way along the paved path and enjoy the scenic view of green extending toward the horizon. Make sure to also stop and take pictures of the panoramic scenery and the different types of tea grown in the field. Once you have snapped enough pictures, retreat to the café and pamper yourself with some cakes, cookies, ice cream and tea as you cool down amidst the afternoon heat at the Bharat Tea House.
